The generation of micro-nanodroplets containing antibiotics exposed to laser radiation
in order to fight the multidrug resistance
OBJECTIVES
The general objectives of the project are: the build-up of an experimental set-up to obtain the antibiotics micro-nanodroplets in view of medical applications and the development of a method to use these micro-nanodroplets in order to reverse the resistance to the treatment with antibiotics.
The specific objectives of the project are: the selection of the most recommended antibiotic group to study; the development of a method for the solution samples exposure to laser radiation; the measurement of the structural modifications in the antibiotics molecules induced by light, and establishing the optimal exposure parameters (dose, wavelength, polarisation); the development of an experimental set-up for obtaining embedded antibiotics micro-nanodroplets in a hydrophobe protection; the study of the interaction of the micro-nanodroplets containing irradiated antibiotic solution with cell cultures for the identification of the mechanism of action; testing of the micro-nanodroplets containing irradiated antibiotic solution on tissues samples of interest for ophthalmology.
